Election campaign and conspiracy narratives
Elections are the most sacred of all democratic rituals. Those who are able to influence the attitudes of the electorate on key issues can not only change the positioning of the individual parties during the election campaign, but also the composition of parliaments in the long term. Due to their populist elements and tendency to exaggerate enemy stereotypes, conspiracy narratives are an excellent tool for political propaganda. In the process, the truth regularly falls by the wayside. A look at history shows how disastrous the use of such strategies can be for democracies. The question is therefore not whether such mechanisms still work today - the question is rather: how do we as a society intend to deal with them?
